How it works

Connect Square once. Three loops run automatically.

01

Recover failed charges

When a card-on-file payment fails, Recoup reads the decline code and re-charges on a smart, decline-aware schedule — delay-and-retry insufficient funds, request a new card on expiry, never hammer a hard decline.

02

Dun from your own domain

A 4-touch email sequence goes out from your verified domain with a one-click card-update link — and cancels itself the instant the payment clears. No shared "no-reply" address.

03

Add late fees + win back

Overdue invoices get escalating reminders and optional late fees Square has no native way to charge. Lapsed customers get a no-login reactivate link that resumes billing on the stored card.

What it does

Everything Square leaves on the table.

Decline-code-aware retries

Square only exposes decline reasons on a live charge. Recoup runs a self-managed billing loop to capture them and retry intelligently — not blind guesses.

Safe-harbor compliant

Card-network limits enforced: ≥24h between attempts, capped at 6 tries over 30 days, hard declines never retried.

Own-domain dunning

DKIM/SPF/DMARC-verified sending from your domain, with bounce + complaint suppression and one-click unsubscribe.

Late fees for overdue invoices

Flat or percentage late fees applied per your policy, with a full audit trail — the gap Square leaves wide open.

Conservative attribution

Every recovered dollar ties to a Square object with a deep link. We under-claim before we over-claim, so the number is one you can trust.

~10-minute setup

Connect Square read-only first, see your recoverable revenue, then grant write access. No marketplace approval, no sales call.

FAQ

Questions, answered.

How is this different from Square’s own reminders?

Square sends passive, email-only reminders and never re-charges a failed card or adds a late fee. Recoup actually retries the payment on a smart schedule and can apply late fees — the two things Square doesn’t do.

Do you ever touch the card number?

No. Cards are tokenized client-side by Square’s Web Payments SDK and stored as a card-on-file reference. The raw card number never reaches our servers.

What does it cost my customers?

Nothing extra from us — Recoup is a flat monthly fee to you, with no revenue share. You keep 100% of what we recover.

Is this a Square Marketplace app?

You connect via Square OAuth in about ten minutes — no marketplace listing or approval needed to get started.

Stop letting failed payments walk out the door.

Connect Square read-only and see exactly how much you can recover — before you grant a single write.
